Lesson 1: HTML and folder management

For this lesson you'll learn how to create and manage site folders. You'll create two pages.

  1. The first page should be called "lessonindex.html." (always use lower case; never use spaces). This page should contain:
    • A title (note: titles are part of the <head> part of any document)
    • A heading with your name and Lesson Index in it
    • A picture of you
    • A "relative" link to the second page called "lesson1.html"
  2. The second page should be called "lesson1.htm." It should contain:
    • A title
    • A heading with your name and Lesson 1 in it
    • A picture of you
    • A paragraph about your pets and/ or pet peevs
    • A paragraph explaining one unusual fact about you
    • A link to your favorite book at City Lights Books (www.citylightsnc.com)
    • a link to your lesson "home" page (lessonindex.html)

Tips for a good site structure

  • Call your primary page index.html (we'll do that later)
  • Plan your folders before you design you site
    • Put all but the index page in subordinate folders or "directories"
    • Put all images in their own folder
    • Put all documents (word, pdf, etc.) in their own folder
  • Make sure the
  • remote site structure mirrors the
    local site structure
  • Carry site, not files, from place to place
